GDSNY served as design architect and branding group for the Ironworks Atelier in Long Island City, New York.
The Ironworks Atelier located in Long Island City along the East River in Manhattan features a collection of duplex townhomes and 2 – 3 bedroom simplexes. The reinvention of the existing ironworks building allowed a harmonious mix of contextual industrial features as well as new and state-of-the-art details and amenities. Materials for the development were sourced from New York State, effectively reducing the building’s carbon footprint. Reuse of existing building elements, geothermal heat sources and state-of-the-art insulation all provide the basis for the goal of LEED Gold. The use of renewable materials like wood and the selective reuse of concrete and steel already in the original building provided a responsible and historic design direction.
