GDSNY Completes a Mid-Century Modern Vision in Connecticut

Global Design Strategies (GDS) has recently completed a comprehensive renovation to a mid-century modern residence in western Connecticut. The Manhattan-based clients were looking to restore and modernize their house and reconfigure the plan to accommodate their family and frequent weekend guests, and to house their growing art collection.

The kitchen was relocated to open up the main living and dining areas to provide exceptional light and panoramic views of the valley below. The bedrooms were grouped in their own wing of the house to create privacy and a separation from the kitchen and entertaining areas of the house. A natural finish vertical cedar lapped siding clads the exterior of the house, reflective of the natural woods surrounding the house. Having the house become a part of the natural environment was an important consideration throughout the design process.

The renovation is complimented by the installation of a major Nils Folke Anderson sculpture in the private courtyard of the house, which is the focal point from the living and dining rooms. Artists from around the world also feature throughout the house.
