GDSNY Revitalizes Met Tower with Major Lobby and Amenity Upgrades

New York, NY GDSNY today announced significant upgrades to the lobby, office, and amenity spaces at Metropolitan Tower (Met Tower) – part of a comprehensive repositioning of the underutilized high-rise in Manhattan’s Plaza District. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), the renovation will introduce high-quality natural materials, refined architectural details, and hospitality-led amenities that will greatly enhance the tenant and visitor experience.

Located at 142 West 57th Street, Met Tower spans 273,000 square feet of office space and serviced parking. Completed in 1987, the building features a sleek, faceted silhouette and dark glass façade that create a timeless presence on the midtown skyline. In the heart of the Plaza District, Met Tower benefits from proximity to Central Park and Fifth Avenue and is surrounded by premier dining, retail, and cultural landmarks such as Rockefeller Center and Carnegie Hall.

As part of the transformation, the building’s lobby will be revitalized with a custom-carved granite concierge desk and Italian Silver Travertine walls. The project also introduces elevated dining and gathering spaces, including the new Met Club – a private members’ lounge and bar – and the Met Café. Open to both tenants and the public, the café will offer an ideal setting for social gatherings, meetings, or focused work.

Since assuming ownership of the building, in March 2024, GDSNY has repositioned the office and public spaces to align with modern workplace demands, driving strong leasing activity. The office component is currently 75% leased, with two new pre-built floors set to launch later in March, to be leased by Newmark. Fogarty Finger Architecture is designing the new office fit-outs, with the two pre-built office spaces scheduled for completion this summer. Notable tenants include Hilton Hotels, Kaplan Rice, Bayview Asset Management, and coworking firm International Workplace Group. Triton Construction is building the project.

“We are excited to bring a fresh vision to Met Tower that will enhance the building’s premier office space,” said Michael Kirchmann, CEO of GDSNY. “As we prepare to launch leasing for the remaining office stories, these upgrades will further elevate the workplace experience and reinforce Met Tower’s position as a top-tier destination in the Plaza District.”

“We are thrilled to partner with GDSNY, who were behind other notable transformative projects such as 1245 Broadway and 205 West 28th Street,” said Eric Cagner, Executive Managing Director at Newmark. “The GDSNY brand that symbolizes modernity and forward-thinking design will translate into a reimagined Met Tower that will meet what today’s tenant aspires for in an office environment.

The full renovation is scheduled for completion in Spring 2026.
